Tonight the Scorchers play host to the Adelaide Strikers and both sides are bolstered with the return of Australian Internationals to their outfits.
The Scorchers will welcome back Ashton Turner and Ashton Agar while the Strikers will be delighted to see gun keeper batsman Alex Carey return to the side.
The Scorchers did a number on the Sydney Thunder on Monday night but the market has them as the $2.05 outsiders with the Strikers the $1.80 favourites.
Adelaide have a very strong batting lineup which includes Weatherald, Salt, Head, Carey and Wells and if the Scorchers are to win it will be essential to take some early wickets. Similarly when batting Perth must minimise the damage of star leg spinner Rashid Khan.
The Scorchers have plenty of quality themselves though and Inglis, Livingstone, Mitch Marsh and Ashton Turner will all be looking to pile on quick runs while Jhye Richardson is back to his brilliant best with the ball.
I find it hard to split the pair and would be tempted to have something small on the Scorchers at home and as the outsiders.
In novelty bets I have backed Jhye Richardson to be the leading wicket taker for the Scorchers at $3.20, Travis Head to be the leading run scorer for the Strikers at $3.20 and Mitch Marsh to be the leading scorer for the Scorchers at $4.20.
There is a double header to look forward to on Saturday. In the first match I think the Sydney Sixers will prove far too strong for Melbourne Renegades while in the second match the league leading Melbourne Stars look the likely victors over the hot and cold Brisbane Heat.
The Sixers into the Stars multi is paying $2.88.
The Perth Wildcats are at home to the New Zealand Breakers on Saturday night and recent form would suggest the Wildcats are again going to take a power of beating.
They are warm favourites at $1.32 with New Zealand at $3.40.
So often Perth find a way to win these matches by healthy margins and I am having my standard staggered margin bets with the Wildcats to win by 8 or more at $1.95, 15 or more at $3.50, 20 or more at $6.50 and 30 or more at $21.
We don’t have to spend a lot to get a nice result if the Wildcats blow apart the Breakers which is quite feasible.
The Perth Glory have won their last six matches in a row and hit the road to take on Melbourne City this weekend.
I think the $2.85 being offered about the Glory to win is generous and it is my sole bet in the A-League this weekend.
My FA Cup multi for this week requires Leicester City, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Liverpool to all prevail this round. The multi quote is $4.92.
AUSTRALIAN OPEN TENNIS
With Serena Williams now out of the tournament I think it has opened right up for Ash Barty to win her home town major
She is playing great Tennis and the $4.50 on offer for her to win the tournament will give us a great run for our money.
Djokovic appears set to win the Men’s title at $2 and you can combine the two in a multi which gets us $9.
My best racing bets of the weekend are as follows.
Caulfield Saturday Race 2 Number 3 Titan Blinders (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $3.70) : In form four year old who has had 3 starts this time in for a win, a second and a third. Has proven an ultra-consistent performer to this point of his career and with even luck should be right in the thick of things again.
Randwick Saturday Race 6 Number 3 Helga (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $2.50) : Quality mare who was at her brilliant best last start here at Randwick when she motored home for a commanding victory over the 1500 metres. Steps up to the mile for this event which looks ideal and she only has to reproduce her most recent run to be awfully hard to beat again.
Randwick Saturday Race 9 Number 5 Superium (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $2.00) : Has had two runs back from a spell for a win and a second and despite the wide draw here looks the class of the field. Has a proven record at this venue and is working through the classes nicely. Appears beautifully placed in this lineup.
Ascot Saturday Race 1 Number 1 Gemmas Son (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $2.15) : Made a superb debut recently here at Ascot when far too strong for his opposition stretching out to win by nearly two lengths. Is likely to be better for the experience and from a suitable barrier and with the services of Paul Harvey he should be primed for back to back victories.
Cannington Saturday Race 6 Number 5 Rockstar Patriot (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price Not Available) : Group 1 Galaxy Winner form last year who resumed from a 6 month break over an unsuitable distance and box last start but still prevailed. That suggests this fellow is back as good as ever and he is much better suited by the step up to 600 metres here. With a clear run should be too strong late. Other nice bets look to be 2-6 Don’t Guess / 4-8 Reidy’s Runner and 11-2 White Minion each way.
