Here are this week’s top tips on all things sport and racing

While there are no games this weekend there are some markets out for Most Disposals and Most Goals of the final series which will be closed by the time this column is posted next week.

Accordingly I will share my early plays on these markets – it is no easy task as there is no surety in how many games each team will be playing however for a small outlay there is the opportunity to be running for some nice results.

In Most Disposals for the finals I have had a small speck on Steele Sidebottom at $7 and Luke Shuey at $13.

In Most Goals betting for the finals I have backed Jack Riewoldt at $6 and Jordan De Goey at $15.

In next Thursday night’s first final I am sticking with the reigning champions Richmond to be too strong for the Hawks. While I am confident the Tigers will win I am expecting it to be competitive. My play will be Richmond to win by under 40 at $2 and Jack Riewoldt to kick the first goal at $7.

I’ll take a multi which requires Melbourne, North Queensland, Sydney and Brisbane to all win their respective matches. The multi is paying $4.06.

This weekend I will opt for a three leg multi which requires Everton, Chelsea and Arsenal to all prevail. The multi price is $3.01.

I’ll take a Friday night multi with Ash Barty, Serena Williams and Elina Svitolina to all win through to the next round at the multi quote of $2.12.

After making nice money out of New Zealand to cover the line against the Wallabies over the last two weeks I am crossing the floor and this week I am backing the Wallabies to defeat the Springboks. I will take a multi with the Wallabies to win into New Zealand to once again cover the line and defeat Argentina by 28 points or more. The multi is paying $2.90.

Another sensational weekend of racing lies ahead with the feature event being the Group 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield where sandgropers Vega Magic and Black Heart Bart will be flying the flag for WA.

My best bets of the weekend are as follows :

Caulfield Saturday Race 4 Number 9 Night’s Watch (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $2.10) : Was first up at Flemington three weeks ago when he came from back in the pack to charge home up against the inside and finish a narrow second behind Theanswermyfriend. Theanswermyfriend has since come out and franked that form when an impressive winner at Moonee Valley last weekend. Has won 6 of his 14 career starts with a further 3 placings and has won his only previous start at this venue. Has a lovely draw in gate 3 and gun Jockey Damian Lane is likely to give this fellow a sweet ride in transit. Has already been very well backed firming from $2.80 overnight into $2.10 this morning. Looks the goods.

Caulfield Saturday Race 7 Number 3 Vega Magic (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $2.80) : Proven top grade performer who resumed with a dominant win in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes at this track last month. Reports from the stable are that he has come through that performance with flying colours and while the Everest is his main aim this time in Trainer Tom Dabernig reported yesterday on the Sports Daily on TAB Radio that he was bigger and stronger than at any other time in his career. He has had 2 starts over this distance for 2 wins, 3 starts at this track for 3 wins and when second up he has had 5 starts for 4 wins and a placing. Happy Clapper and Kementari appear the major dangers in this race but for all the reasons mentioned here I am happy to side with Vega Magic.

Randwick Saturday Race 6 Number 4 Pierata (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $3.30) : Star 4 year old who had his first run back from a spell when an impressive winner over Kementari and The Monstar in the Group 2 Missile Stakes at this venue. Has since cruised around in grand style when winning a barrier trial over 895 metres to keep him ticking along for this race. Has had 4 tries at this trip for 2 wins and 2 placings, 3 starts at this track for 2 wins and a 2nd, and 2 runs second up for a win and a 2nd. The clear threats look to be Le Romain and Lanciato while Tom Melbourne must always be included for second and third in trifecta bets. He has come back in tip top order and can continue on his stellar form in this event.

Randwick Saturday Race 7 Number 15 Unforgotten (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $3.90) : High quality mare who won the ATC Oaks last preparation and was first up in the Winx Stakes a fortnight ago when beaten less than 4 lengths by the mighty Winx and was making up good ground late in that event. From three previous second up runs she has had 2 wins and a second and is suited by the step up in distance to the mile. Will no doubt get better as the distances get longer into her campaign but this is very winnable for a mare of her class. Is close to each way odds and I am happy to be on her. Is worth following right through the Spring.

Cannington Saturday Race 7 Number 2 Back on Lava (No Fixed Odds Available) : Former Victorian stayer who has finished runner-up at his last two starts over this distance and last week he was excellent when going down by just a length behind the in-form Outshined. Looks to be getting better with every run and should get the cash here. The only danger looks to be Moment To Rumba who looms as the obvious quinella choice. The other runner I like on the card that should be reasonable value is Destroyer in race 6 number 7.
