TEST SERIES – AUSTRALIA v NEW ZEALAND
Australia head in to the 3 Test series against New Zealand with plenty of confidence after a convincing 2-0 series win against Pakistan.
New Zealand also are in good form after a 1-0 series win on home soil against England.
With the aid of the home ground advantage you would expect Australia to be a touch too classy for the Black Caps.
While New Zealand are likely to prove a lot stiffer opposition than Pakistan Australia’s fit and firing pace attack combined with the guile of Nathan Lyon looks to be the difference between the two sides.
New Zealand’s attack are likely to ask more questions than the Pakistan bowlers did and accordingly I can see Australia losing a wicket or two early in a number of these innings.
This will leave the door open for Steve Smith to shine once again. We saw him put on a masterclass in the Ashes series in the winter and he has not yet really been required so far in the 2 tests this summer.
You can be safe in the knowledge that when he does get his opportunity he will take it. I have backed him at $4 to be the player of the series and have backed Australia to win the series 3-0 at $2.75.
My 2 other bets for the series are Kane Williamson to be the leading run scorer for New Zealand at $2.75 and Mitchell Starc to be the leading wicket taker for Australia at $3.
The Perth Wildcats handed in one of their poorer performances for a long time when they were demolished by the Adelaide 36ers last weekend.
It doesn’t get any easier for the Wildcats this weekend where they take on the league leading Sydney Kings at home tonight and then they hit the road to take on South East Melbourne Phoenix on Sunday.
They are outsiders in both matches and while they are capable of bouncing back I am going to steer clear of backing them this time around.
Instead I will opt for a multi which requires Melbourne United to defeat the Adelaide 36ers, the Brisbane Bullets to defeat Illawarra and the Sydney Kings to defeat the Cairns Taipans. The multi is paying $2.22.
The Perth Glory continue to struggle with just 1 win for the season and tonight they are the $3.30 outsiders for their clash with Melbourne City who are the $2.03 favourites and the draw is paying $3.80.
My multi in the A-League this weekend needs Sydney FC and Adelaide United to both win their respective fixtures. The multi is paying $2.99.
My EPL multi for this week requires Liverpool, Manchester City and Leicester to all prevail this round. The multi quote is $3.26.
My best racing bets of the weekend are as follows :
Pakenham Saturday Race 2 Number 6 Cape Richards (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $6.50) : Is bursting to win a race after finishing runner-up at his last four starts before going for a spell. Has won first up in the past and from 2 tries over this distance has a win and a placing. Trainer Patty Payne has been having a terrific run with his team of late and this fellow looks a great each way hope at nice odds.
Rosehilll Saturday Race 6 Number 6 Lucicello (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $2.45) : Classy filly who has had 8 career starts for 3 wins and 3 placings. Was luckless last start when she was a close up 4th on a day where run on horses were at a distinct disadvantage. She looks much better placed here and I expect her to drop out before coming home with her customary finishing burst. Should be all over the top of them late.
Ascot Saturday Race 7 Number 12 Flirtini (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $2.05) : Was making up good late ground last start when running home for 5th in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes. Will appreciate the drop back to Group 3 level here and has been smashed in betting firming from $3.30 into $2.05. Has a touch of class and looks one of the stand out bets of the day.
Ascot Saturday Race 8 Number 15 Kay Cee (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price $11) : Classy three year old filly who defeated the Kingston Town Classic favourite Tuscan Queen just three starts ago in the Burgess Queen and while Tuscan Queen is the $2.80 favourite this girl is a juicy price at $11. Has never run a bad race in her life and while this is a tough assignment the three year olds get in well on the weights. I think the gap between her and Tuscan Queen is too big and I am happy to be on her each way.
Mandurah Friday Race 5 Number 1 Westdale Ares (TABtouch Fixed Odds Price Not Available) : Class sprinter who has had 3 starts from box one for 3 wins. Runs into a nice lineup but racing in peak form and from the box it is very hard to go past. Other nice bets on the program look to be 3-7 Fantastic Zip, 4-8 Clifton Flyer each way and 8-1 West On Violet.
